Memorial Day Tips

Thank you to all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you to all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone! I hope you are able to emerge from your homes and step into some sunshine and enjoy your favorite picnic foods with your family. Please be safe, practice social distancing and try not to blow your hard work. There is a comparison to quarantine and dieting. The stricter we are n telling ourselves not to do something, it seems the more we want to do that exact thing.

When you are on a diet you tell yourself “No more ice cream” so you do your best and try to set a goal of 30 days with no ice cream. The problem with this, most people on day 31 then go crazy and eat a whole tub of ice cream in one sitting. I feel like this logic can be applied to our stay at home orders. For weeks we have locked ourselves in our homes, unable to do all the things we love outside with friends and some family. We are keeping grandma and grandpa at a distance, wearing our masks and sanitizing everything. Now that many counties have switched to our yellow phase, and it being Memorial Day weekend, it is easy to forget all the social distancing rules and just go back to the way things used to be.

I just wanted to send a reminder that you can enjoy you Memorial Day picnic but don’t go crazy and invite the whole neighborhood over. Also, if you have been working really hard to not gain the Quarantine 15 or the 2020 Twenty then this might be a set up for you to gorge! This is your chance to get ahead of those impulses and research healthier substitutions.

Take a moment this afternoon and think about the types of foods you look most forward to at the picnic: Salty chips? Sweet treats? Fatty burgers? Stop and think about other options that satisfy your cravings without blowing through your daily caloric needs. Prep some of your favorites now so that you can enjoy the picnic without worry of overindulgence!
